EU South Caucasus envoy Grono to travel to Yerevan after Azerbaijan visit

European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus Magdalena Grono has completed another round of regular consultations in Azerbaijan and is set to travel to Yerevan for meetings with Armenian officials and civil society representatives, she said on X.

During her visit to Baku on September 10, Grono met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Presidential Administration’s Foreign Policy Affairs Department, and Elchin Amirbayov, the President’s Special Representative for Special Assignments, Caliber.Az reports.

“We discussed European Union’s support to the Azerbaijan-Armenia bilateral peace process, including humanitarian aspects related to legacies of past conflict, as well as connectivity and regional co-operation efforts,” Grono said.

Concluded another series of regular consultations in 🇦🇿, where I met with Foreign Minister Bayramov, as well as with Presidential Advisers Hajiyev and Amirbayov in Baku on 10 September. (1/6)

On September 11-12, she also took part for the first time in a trip organized by the Azerbaijani authorities for the diplomatic corps to the former conflict-affected areas of the Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur regions to assess the situation on the ground. She said the participants had an opportunity to speak with representatives of local authorities, former internally displaced persons and media representatives.

The delegation also visited various cultural and religious heritage sites, including mosques and churches.

“Following exchanges with Azerbaijani counterparts, now looking forward to my upcoming meetings with Armenian officials and civil society representatives tomorrow in Yerevan,” Grono noted.
