EU Delegation head condemns Russian Security Forces’ actions against Azerbaijanis
Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko has strongly condemned the recent inhumane actions of Russian security forces against Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg, expressing deep concern over reports of violence, torture, and cruel treatment that resulted in the deaths of two Azerbaijanis.
“I am deeply concerned by the reports of violence, torture and inhuman treatment against ethnic Azerbaijanis in Russia, leading even to deaths, committed by Russian security forces. My thoughts are with the victims and their families,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Michalko’s message on X.
The incident occurred on the morning of June 27, when Russia’s Federal Security Service raided the houses of Azerbaijani residents in Yekaterinburg. Among those killed were two brothers of prominent Azerbaijani journalist Seyfaddin Huseynli. Several others sustained injuries during the operation.
Following the raid, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry called for a comprehensive investigation and demanded that those responsible must be held accountable. On June 28, the Russian chargé d’affaires was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, where officials issued a formal protest against the violent actions.
