NATO considers supplying Ukraine with long-range missiles Amid ongoing conflict
NATO is actively deliberating the potential provision of long-range missiles to Ukraine, a move that could significantly bolster its military capabilities against Russian aggression.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that the alliance is exploring options to equip Kyiv with advanced missile systems capable of reaching strategic military targets within Russia, Caliber.Az reports.
This consideration comes in response to the current dynamics on the conflict front and the need to enhance Ukraine’s defensive and offensive capabilities. Long-range missiles would greatly extend the operational reach of Ukrainian forces, providing them with new means to impact key military and infrastructure targets within Russian territory.
While no final decision has been made, Stoltenberg noted that the proposal is actively under discussion among NATO member states. The potential inclusion of such missile systems aims to improve Ukraine's ability to effectively strike at critical locations, potentially altering the course of the ongoing conflict.
In related remarks, Stoltenberg acknowledged the significant progress made by Ukraine in its offensive operations, particularly in Kursk. He commended the achievements thus far but cautioned that the future trajectory of the situation remains uncertain. He emphasized that the decisions on military strategy and deployment ultimately rest with Ukrainian leaders.
Addressing broader security concerns, Stoltenberg also highlighted that NATO is not currently facing direct military threats. Instead, the alliance is dealing with challenges such as cyberattacks and terrorism.
Speaking in Oslo on September 5, Stoltenberg emphasized that while NATO's traditional military threats are minimal, non-traditional threats like hacking and terrorism are increasingly prominent issues for the organization.
