British king, queen to host Oman’s sultan at Windsor Castle

The British king and queen will host the sultan of Oman when he makes a state visit to the UK next month.

Charles and Camilla will welcome Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Windsor Castle when his three-day trip begins on October 22, dpa reports.

Details of the visit have yet to be released but it is expected to follow the traditional program of a ceremonial welcome, state banquet and the viewing of exhibits from the Royal Collection.

The king met the Oxford-educated sultan last July for tea at Windsor Castle during the foreign head of state’s private visit to the UK.

The last state visit by a sultan of Oman to the UK was in March 1982 when then queen Elizabeth Il hosted Oman’s previous leader sultan Qaboos bin Said.

Charles has made four official visits to Oman, the last in January 2020 when he travelled to Muscat to offer condolences after the death of sultan Qaboos.

As the prince of Wales, he visited the Middle Eastern country with his wife in 2016 for a two-day trip.
