Armenia to interrogate PM as part of war case

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will be interrogated as part of criminal case investigation into the 44-day second Armenia-Azerbaijan Karabakh war, however, the exact timing is still unknown.

This statement came from Head of the Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the Armenian Investigative Committee, Rafael Vardanyan, made at a meeting with the parents of the killed servicemen on May 18, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Armenian media.

The parents of those who died during the 44-day war held rallies in front of the Court of Appeal, the Prosecutor General's Office and the above-mentioned department of the Investigative Committee on May 17, demanding an immediate investigation of the war case and bringing Pashinyan as an accused. The rally participants gathered at the Investigative Committee again on May 18.

“The instructions of the Prosecutor General's Office, given within the criminal case, will be fulfilled. A meeting with the head of the Investigative Committee has been already scheduled, and the terms will be discussed during this meeting,” Vardanyan told the rally participants.

The Prosecutor General's Office granted the petition of the parents of the Armenian servicemen killed in Karabakh region, recognizing them as victims within the investigation of the criminal case on the war on May 12.

The parents demand that Pashinyan should be brought in as an accused and summoned for interrogation.

The Prosecutor General's Office granted the request for a full, objective and comprehensive preliminary investigation, however, the request to detain the prime minister was rejected.
