Latvian PM sees Ukraine's victory, Russia's defeat as only way to end war
WORLD 24 May 2022 - 11:26
Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins is convinced that the only end to the full-scale war that has been going on since February 24 is Ukraine's victory and Russia's defeat.
Karins explained that any other option could potentially give Russia time and opportunity to rebuild and rearm in order to "expand its imaginary empire", Delfi reports.
Thus, the Latvian prime minister commented on the opinion of some Western politicians that the war could be ended by sacrificing part of Ukraine's territory, which would allow Russian President Vladimir Putin to "save face".
Karins urged these politicians to ask themselves if they are ready to sacrifice the people and territory of their country.
"This approach is absurd," the head of the Latvian government stressed.
In turn, Justice Minister Janis Bordans, the leader of the Conservatives in the ruling coalition, said that he supports the prime minister's position.
He added that such proposals indicate that Russia is launching its agents of influence both in the EU countries and in other countries, trying to delay its defeat in the war against Ukraine.
