Academic year starts at Azerbaijan's Karabakh University

23 September 2024 09:45

The educational process started at the Karabakh University in Azerbaijan's Khankendi city on September 23.

A total of 1,104 students have been admitted to the university's bachelor's degree in the 2024/2025 academic year. An acceptance rate is 98.5 per cent. Among the new students, 101 scored over 600 points, while 385 scored above 500. The highest score recorded was 683.8 points in the field of "Law." The student who won a competition was admitted to the university without entrance exams in the "Electrical and Electronic Engineering" faculty. Overall, the average admission score across I-IV groups of specialties was 467.6, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

In its first academic year, Karabakh University has established SABAH groups for such specialties as "Law," "Foreign Language Teaching (English)," and "Finance and Accounting". A total of 60 students, who excelled in a competition among various higher education institutions and completed their first year, will continue their education in the SABAH groups at Karabakh University for the second year in these four specialties. This academic year, Karabakh University will be training students across six faculties, namely, Education, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Economics, Engineering, and Tourism.

Karabakh University is currently housed in three educational buildings. The main building accommodates the faculties of Education, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Economics, and Tourism. The second building is home to the Faculty of Arts, while the third building - the International Linguistic Centre. To reinforce students' theoretical knowledge with practical skills, the university has established six laboratories tailored to meet the needs of the first academic year.

These include laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Mechatronics, Robotics, as well as Computer Science and Graphic Design, and a Programming Lab. The university library, designed according to modern standards, can accommodate 200 students at the same time. Its collection includes over 6,000 textbooks and other literature in Azerbaijani, English, and Russian.

Students can also take advantage of the extensive resources offered by the "Electronic Library" system. Currently, the university employs 160 staff members, including 60 academic faculty members and 100 administrative and technical personnel. When selecting staff, priority was given to professionals with the knowledge and skills essential for organising Karabakh University’s activities according to international standards.

The efforts are being made to attract qualified and experienced teachers, both from Azerbaijan and abroad, to enhance the academic environment. This initiative particularly focuses on Azerbaijani scholars living overseas and young individuals studying at prestigious foreign universities through relevant state programmes. On September 20, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the reopening of Karabakh University after renovations and reviewed the facilities at the institution.
