Armenian opposition figure’s relative placed under house arrest

Karapet Guloyan, the son-in-law of Armenian businessman and opposition politician Gagik Tsarukyan, has been placed under house arrest in connection with a criminal case opened earlier this week, authorities said.

The Supreme Judicial Council also confirmed that bail has been set at approximately $50,000 for Guloyan, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media. 

According to law enforcement officials, the case involves alleged unlawful actions related to a mansion that is currently under arrest. Investigators claim Guloyan removed construction materials, including slabs from the front of the building, as well as windows and doors.

Authorities have charged him with “committing unlawful acts in relation to a mansion currently under arrest”.

The development comes after previous reports that a separate criminal case had also been opened involving Gagik Tsarukyan himself, an opposition figure and leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" party.
