Armenian religious leader begins trip to India
Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II, departed on November 8 for a visit to India, the press office of the Catholicos confirmed, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media sources.
During his visit, Garegin II is scheduled to meet with the trustees of St. Nazareth Church in Kolkata.
He will also hold discussions with the leadership and teaching staff of the Armenian Philanthropic Seminary, engaging in activities related to the Armenian Church and its educational institutions.
This visit comes amid ongoing domestic controversy. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has publicly called for Garegin II to step down as Catholicos. Pashinyan cited alleged violations of the monastic vow of celibacy and accused the Church leadership of interfering in politics in a manner that undermines state authority and stability.
