Azerbaijan building railway in Zangezur VIDEO

The Horadiz-Aghband railway line, passing through Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli, Jabrayil and Zangilan districts, is being rapidly built.

The railway line is being rapidly built, by laying railway sleepers and rails on a previously prepared earthen embankment, Azerbaijan Railways company told Caliber.Az.

Some 48 per cent of the work has been carried out thanks to the fast pace of construction.

The length of the Horadiz-Aghband railway line, the foundation of which was laid by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on February 14, 2021, is 110.4 kilometres. There will be nine stations, namely, Horadiz, Marjanli, Mahmudlu, Hakari, Soltanli, Gumlag, Minjivan, Bartaz and Aghband. In total, three tunnels, 41 bridges (one of them 771 metres long), seven overpasses - a total of over 500 engineering facilities will be built there.

As a result of the project implementation, it is planned to create a direct route with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and Türkiye. The railway will be of great importance both for the movement of citizens and for the transportation of goods to the liberated lands.

The previously existing single-track Horadiz-Aghband railway line, along which Baku-Yerevan and Baku-Nakhchivan trains ran before the beginning of the first Karabakh War, was destroyed in 1993 after the occupation of the Azerbaijani lands by the Armenian armed forces. During 27 years, the final stop of trains was the Horadiz station in the Fuzuli district. The new railway line will stretch from Horadiz to Aghband settlement in the Zangilan district.

Aghband settlement is located at the foot of the mountain of the same name on the left bank of the Araz River, 22 kilometres southwest of Zangelan city. The Horadiz-Aghband road will make a great contribution to the development of the economic potential of the liberated territories.
