Baku, Tbilisi, Ankara and Sofia discuss new energy corridor to Europe

13 August 2026 10:53

The governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye and Bulgaria are negotiating the creation of a land-based transit corridor for transporting electricity, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Inga Pkhaladze said.

According to her, the new initiative would allow electricity from any interested country, primarily neighbouring states, to be supplied to Europe via Georgia.

“This is a very important and economically interesting initiative, because alongside transit, Georgia will also export its own electricity, which, in turn, will help support local businesses and advance the country’s energy sector to a high level,” the deputy minister added.
