British PM: Meeting with Zelenskyy takes place at decisive moment for Ukraine
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that his meeting with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy comes at a "crucial moment in Ukraine's resistance" and the country's allies "must not let them down".
During the meeting held within the framework of Zelenskyy’s surprise visit to the UK, the premier announced the UK will donate hundreds of air defence missiles and new long-range attack drones to Ukraine, The Telegraph writes.
"They need the sustained support of the international community to defend against the barrage of unrelenting and indiscriminate attacks that have been their daily reality for over a year…We must not let them down. The frontlines of Putin’s war of aggression may be in Ukraine but the fault lines stretch all over the world. It is in all our interest to ensure Ukraine succeeds and Putin’s barbarism is not rewarded,” Sunik said in a statement.
"Today – London. The UK is a leader when it comes to expanding our capabilities on the ground and in the air. This cooperation will continue today. I will meet my friend Rishi. We will conduct substantive negotiations face-to-face and in delegations," Zelensky tweeted prior to the meeting.
The Ukrainian President was last in the UK for talks with Mr Sunak back in February of 2023 in what was his first visit to Britain since the start of the war. That trip also saw him deliver an address to both Houses of Parliament and meet King Charles.
