Freed hostage Agam Berger transferred to IDF, reunites with family in Israel VIDEO

30 January 2025 14:23

An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson confirmed that hostage Agam Berger was handed over by Hamas to the Red Cross in the Jabaliya area, in northern Gaza, before being transferred to IDF representatives.

The Israeli media reported that Agam was brought to Israel, where she reunited with her parents and underwent an initial medical examination, per Caliber.Az.

Meanwhile, in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza, the process of transferring freed hostages Gadi Mozes and Arbel Yehud by Islamic Jihad to Red Cross representatives is taking place near the home of Yahya Sinwar, Hamas' leader killed by Israel in October 2024.

As part of the ongoing prisoner exchange deal, the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Prisoners' Affairs announced that on Thursday, January 30, Israel will release 110 Palestinian prisoners from its prisons. This includes 32 prisoners serving life sentences, 48 long-term prisoners, and 30 minors.

Under the terms of the agreement, for each released Israeli soldier, Israel will free 50 Palestinian prisoners, including 30 serving life sentences for murder and 20 prisoners with less than 15 years remaining in their sentences. The lists of these prisoners are provided by Hamas, with a portion of them being sent abroad. For every released civilian woman or child, Israel will release 30 Palestinian minors and women prisoners from lists provided by Hamas. For every elderly hostage released, Israel will free 30 elderly and sick prisoners serving up to 15 years from lists also provided by Hamas.

Shortly before the scheduled release of four hostages, which included civilian Arbel Yehud, held by Islamic Jihad, and three female Israeli soldiers, the militants demanded a higher "price" for Yehud’s release. They argued that since she had previously served in the Israeli military, she should be categorized as a soldier. They insisted on 50 prisoners being released for her alone, including 30 convicted murderers serving life sentences and 20 other prisoners with less than 15 years remaining.

Israel refused to alter the agreed terms. Consequently, on January 25, Hamas released four female Israeli soldiers — Naama Levy, Liri Albag, Karina Ariev, and Daniela Gilboa — who had been held captive in Gaza since October 7, 2023. This release occurred in exchange for 200 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons.
