Suspected human remains discovered in Gubadli District, Azerbaijan
Bone fragments believed to be human remains were found during excavation work in the Gubadli district, local authorities said on June 20.
The fragments, resembling parts of a human skeleton, were uncovered in the village of Gundagly, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijani media.
Law enforcement officials have been dispatched to the site, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the nature and origin of the remains.
As a reminder, in April 2025, human bone fragments were uncovered during excavation work in the village of Damirchilar, located in Azerbaijan's Gubadli district. The Gubadli District Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation into the discovery.
This discovery adds to a series of similar findings in the region. Earlier, in February 2025, human remains were unearthed during construction work in the village of Khidirli in the Aghdam district. An investigation was also launched into this finding.
These incidents have prompted the Azerbaijani Ombudsperson to call on Armenia to disclose the burial sites of Azerbaijani victims.
The Ombudsperson emphasised that the signs of violence on the remains provide further evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Armenia against Azerbaijanis during the First Karabakh War.
