French journalist expresses shame over Macron's criticism of Israel Amid Gaza conflict
French journalist Philippe Val has openly criticized President Emmanuel Macron for his comments regarding Israel during the ongoing war in Gaza and Lebanon.
In a segment aired by Israel’s Channel 12 on Europe 1 Radio, Val urged listeners to consider the psychological toll on France if it were experiencing similar attacks, stating, “Imagine under what mental strain France and its people would be if we were in Israel’s place,”Caliber.Az reports citing Israeli media.
Val argued that the expectations placed on Israel are excessively high, emphasizing that the country faces ongoing terrorism, rampant antisemitism, and extreme violence while also being pressured to maintain a positive public image. He expressed his discontent with Macron’s remarks about the conduct of the war and the call to cease supplying offensive weapons to Israel.
In a moment of personal reflection, Val stated, “For the first time in a long time I was ashamed to be French. I wanted to tell Israelis I’m sorry. Do not mistakenly think all French think like the president that represents us. Believe us, the vast majority of the French stands by you.”
