Georgia cracks down on draft evaders with new fines for skipping medical checks

28 October 2025 20:46

The Georgian government is set to impose new fines on individuals who evade mandatory military service.

According to Sputnik Georgia’s Telegram channel, Parliament is considering amendments to the country’s Code of Administrative Offences.

Under the proposed changes, refusing to undergo additional medical examinations required for conscription would become a punishable offence.

Currently, failing to attend a medical commission carries a fine of 1,000 lari ($367). If the amendments are approved, the same penalty will also apply to those who refuse any supplementary examinations requested by the commission.
