German FM prefers restaurant instead of meeting with Azerbaijani refugees
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock arrived in Azerbaijan on November 4, Caliber.Az reports.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received Baerbock in Baku. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the Azerbaijan-Germany bilateral ties, normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as ensuring peace, stability and security in the South Caucasus as a whole.
Then Baerbock met with her Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov. Afterwards, a joint press conference was held, at which Baerbock made a false statement.
Before arriving in Baku, Baerbock visited Armenia, where she met with Armenians who voluntarily moved from Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region. Azerbaijan expected reciprocity, that is, a meeting of the German foreign minister with Azerbaijani internally displaced people and refugees.
A RealTV journalist asked a logical question whether she met with internally displaced people and refugees in Baku, Baerbock simply lied. While answering the question, the minister first described her meeting with Armenians who had left the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan for Armenia. Only after Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov reminded the essence of the issue, she stated that she held a meeting with “people who moved from Armenia” in Baku.
However, according to the information obtained from reliable sources, the German foreign minister held a meeting with some representatives of civil society in one of Baku’s restaurants.
Proceeding from the obtained information, although the minister was offered to meet with refugees and internally displaced people, she refused.
The minister of the biggest Western European country must realise that such false statements have a negative impact on the Azerbaijan-Germany bilateral relations.
