UNICEF, WHO call for urgent actions to protect children’s health at Azerbaijan’s COP29 PHOTO
The UN International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have organised a joint event titled "The Health Argument for Climate Action" during the COP29 conference.
The discussion was also attended by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. During the event, a report titled "Threat to Progress: Confronting the Impact of Climate Change on Children’s Health and Well-Being" was presented, highlighting the urgent need for immediate action, Caliber.Az reports, citing UNICEF's message on X.
Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF Kitty van der Heyden called for swift measures to address the issue, emphasising the unique vulnerability of children in the face of the climate crisis.
COP29 is considered one of the largest and most prestigious climate conferences in the world. This year’s event in Baku, which will run until November 22, is being held in Azerbaijan for the first time. The country has signed a Host Country Agreement and other key documents with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat, cementing its role as a leader in climate change discussions.
