Top US, Turkish diplomats talk Armenia-Azerbaijan peace, broader regional stability
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a high-level phone conversation to discuss a range of pressing regional issues, including the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The two diplomats exchanged views on the current state of negotiations between Baku and Yerevan, reaffirming their respective countries’ commitment to facilitating a lasting and just resolution to the decades-long conflict in the South Caucasus, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The discussion also extended to broader geopolitical concerns, notably the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Both sides emphasized the need for sustained international engagement to bring an end to the war and ensure regional stability in Eastern Europe.
Efforts to stabilize Syria were also on the agenda, with Rubio and Fidan reviewing the current security and humanitarian situation in the war-torn country. The two leaders underscored the importance of maintaining coordination in order to support political dialogue and prevent further escalation.
In addition, the officials addressed ongoing concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program, exchanging assessments on potential diplomatic and security responses to Tehran’s continued enrichment activities.
