Azerbaijan summons Polish ambassador over “unacceptable” TVP World broadcast UPDATED

Poland’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Paweł Radomski was summoned to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 28 following a TVP World broadcast containing what Baku described as biased and unacceptable claims targeting Azerbaijan and its leadership.

During the meeting, the Azerbaijani side expressed a “strong protest” over a segment aired on August 26 as part of TVP World’s Eastern Express program, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

Baku also voiced “strong objection” to what it called the provocative conduct of the program’s host. A formal note of protest was handed to the Polish side.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry stressed that the broadcast came at a sensitive time, as the normalization and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia is underway.

“It was emphasized that, at a time when the normalization and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia is underway, and Azerbaijan is demonstrating a firm commitment to ensuring lasting peace, stability, and security in the region, the dissemination of information distorting the truth raises serious questions on the Azerbaijani side,” the ministry said.

Baku further characterized the broadcast as an “unfriendly act”, stressing that the content was aired by a public broadcaster funded by the Polish government.

According to the ministry, such content “runs counter to the spirit of partnership between the two countries” and could “seriously damage bilateral relations.”

The Azerbaijani side urged Poland to take “immediate and effective measures” to halt what it described as provocative campaigns targeting Azerbaijan.
