Top official highlights centuries-old cultural ties between Karabakh, Bukhara

Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department at the Presidential Administration, has highlighted historical ties between Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region and the Uzbek city of Bukhara.

In a post on X, Hajiyev said the intellectual links between the two regions dated back centuries, highlighting the legacy of Yusuf Karabagi, a prominent 17th-century philosopher and scholar from Karabakh, Caliber.Az reports.

According to Hajiyev, Karabagi left Karabakh to work in Samarkand and Bukhara, where he made a significant contribution to the scientific and cultural life of Central Asia.

Hajiyev said that in 1619, Bukhara ruler Bahadur Khan built a library in Karabagi’s honour and appointed him as its director. He also noted that Karabagi’s tomb is located in Bukhara.

Hajiyev described the historical connection between Karabakh and Bukhara as a centuries-old bridge of science, culture and friendship.
