New treaty to boost ties between Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, MP says

26 August 2026 13:39

The Treaty on Eternal Friendship between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will contribute to the further development of bilateral relations, including in the political, economic and cultural spheres, Uzbek MP Husan Ermatov has said on the sidelines of the International Media Forum Islamic Civilisation.

He noted that this treaty was a logical continuation of the relations already established between the two countries - strong friendship, close ties and a high level of mutual trust, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

According to Ermatov, Tashkent and Baku are focused on further developing trade, industrial cooperation, investment ties and cultural relations, while the Treaty on Eternal Friendship will help achieve these goals.

Speaking about cooperation between the regions and cities of the two countries, he highlighted the importance of agreements establishing sister-city relations.

"This is natural. Every region has its own opportunities and its own issues. Interaction at the level of the regions of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan is logical and usually produces good results," the lawmaker added.

Ermatov also emphasised the importance of parliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

"Parliament plays a very important role as a representative body of government. Today, close and constructive interparliamentary ties have developed between our countries," he emphasised.

In his words, Azerbaijani delegations actively participate in parliamentary forums and events held in Uzbekistan.

Addressing issues of prospects for joint cultural and historical projects, Ermatov pointed out the special role of the Islamic Civilisation Centre in Uzbekistan.

"This is a platform, a field where we can spend more time together, build our relations and discuss plans for the future," he explained.
