Azerbaijani speaker says peace must be based on international law
Peace must be based on international law, says Azerbaijani parliament speaker Sahiba Gafarova in a video address to the Second Inter-Parliamentary Conference of Speakers in Cambodia.
Highlighting the importance of the conference, which focuses on the theme Solidarity for Peace and Universal Well-Being, she stressed that no state can guarantee lasting peace on its own, and no society can prosper in isolation, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Gafarova recalled that armed conflicts, geopolitical tensions and humanitarian crises put human lives at risk, hinder development and deepen inequality.
According to her, there is a need to strictly adhere to the principles of the UN Charter and resolve disputes through dialogue, negotiations and other peaceful means.
Speaking about the practical role of parliaments in this process, Gafarova expressed confidence that parliamentary diplomacy can help ease tensions, build trust and contribute to the peaceful settlement of disputes.
