Baku, Minsk plot new cooperation push in political consultations UPDATED

Azerbaijan and Belarus have discussed ways to further strengthen their strategic partnership during a new round of political consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministries.

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov visited Belarus on August 28, where he held talks with Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The meeting focused on issues stemming from the strategic partnership between Baku and Minsk. The sides highlighted the role of the two countries’ leaders in advancing bilateral relations based on longstanding friendly ties.

Sharifov subsequently led the Azerbaijani delegation at the latest round of political consultations, while Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Pavel Utyupin headed the Belarusian side.

The officials noted the positive momentum in bilateral political dialogue and emphasized the importance of the intergovernmental commission and the political consultations mechanism in advancing cooperation.

The sides reviewed progress in implementing previously reached agreements and discussed the current state of and prospects for cooperation in trade and economic relations, energy, agriculture, humanitarian affairs and other areas of mutual interest.

They also exchanged views on cooperation within regional and international organizations.

The consultations further covered a range of bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

Azerbaijan and Belarus have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between their foreign ministries, with senior officials highlighting the positive momentum in bilateral relations, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.

The sides positively assessed the growing pace of Belarusian-Azerbaijani dialogue at the highest level, as well as the friendly and constructive nature of relations between the two countries.

“The interlocutors positively assessed the strong momentum of Belarusian-Azerbaijani dialogue at the highest level, the friendly and constructive nature of interstate relations, as well as the results achieved in trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation. The sides confirmed their interest in further intensifying interaction between the foreign ministries of the two countries,” the ministry said.
