Fire at gas chemical complex construction site in Russia leaves five dead PHOTO / UPDATED

The death toll from an explosion and fire at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex in Russia’s Amur region has risen to five, REN TV reported.

Preliminary information indicates that 19 injured people have been hospitalized in the city of Svobodny, including 13 in moderate condition and six in serious condition.

Another 113 people were taken to hospital for medical examinations, according to the report.

A Chinese national has died following a fire at the construction site of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex in Russia, the facility’s press service confirmed.

The deceased was an employee of a contractor working at the construction site, TASS reports.

The incident left 123 people injured, with 19 suffering moderate to severe injuries and requiring hospitalization, according to the company.

Another 104 people sought medical attention for minor injuries, including cuts and bruises.

One person has been killed and more than 75 people injured following an explosion at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC) in Russia’s Amur Region.

REN TV reported that the number of injured had reached 87, while a Telegram channel close to law enforcement agencies put the figure at more than 75.

The fire reportedly broke out at an auxiliary process section of the pyrolysis unit at the complex, which is still under construction.

The Amur Gas Chemical Complex is a joint investment project involving Russia’s SIBUR and China’s Sinopec. Once completed, it is expected to become one of the world’s largest facilities for the production of basic polymers.

Five people were hospitalised with injuries of varying severity following a fire at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex in Russia’s Amur region, the facility’s press service said, according to TASS.

The injured are receiving medical treatment, while other people who suffered minor injuries, including cuts and bruises, were treated at the scene.

The fire has been localised, the company said.

“There is no risk of further spread of the fire, and controlled burning of the remaining process gases is underway,” the company said.

The Amur Gas Chemical Complex is a major petrochemical project developed by SIBUR and China’s Sinopec, with planned production capacity of up to 2.7 million tonnes of finished products a year.
