Indian anti-terror officers arrive in Azerbaijan ahead of high-profile extradition Photo
A team from India’s Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrived in Azerbaijan to oversee the extradition of one of the country’s most wanted gang leaders, Mayank Singh, who was detained in Baku last year.
Three Indian officers travelled to Baku to take custody of Singh, with the handover expected to take place between August 22 and 23, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Singh, also known as Sunil Mina, is regarded as the most notorious criminal figure in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand.
He was placed on Interpol’s red notice list and became the first gangster from Jharkhand to be arrested abroad and face extradition.
In May, Azerbaijani authorities approved his return to India after New Delhi presented extensive evidence of his criminal activities via Interpol channels.
Singh has a long history of violent crime and was closely associated with Lawrence Bishnoi, one of India’s most prominent underworld figures.
Before fleeing India, he was implicated in high-profile offences across Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana.
Despite leaving the country, Singh is alleged to have continued his criminal operations remotely, threatening Indian businessmen through internet calls and extorting money.
On social media, he openly boasted of his activities, often sharing images of himself posing with assault weapons.
