Dutch tourist rescued after severe dog attack in Azerbaijan’s Shaki

A Dutch citizen who sustained severe injuries after being attacked by a pack of dogs in the mountainous area of Bash Zayzid village in Azerbaijan’s Shaki district was evacuated as part of a rescue operation conducted by the State Border Service.

Dutch citizen Anne Hestler Kramer, born in 1979, arrived in Azerbaijan on August 26 and set out on a hiking trip in the mountainous area of Shaki district on the morning of August 29. In Bash Zayzid village, she was attacked by dogs and suffered severe open wounds to her head and body, Caliber.Az reports.

After the Shaki Border Detachment of the State Border Service’s Border Troops received information about the incident, a rescue operation was immediately launched. A medical team and rescue group were promptly dispatched to the area by helicopter from the Special Air Operations Forces Command of the State Border Service to evacuate the tourist.

The rescue operation was carried out at an altitude of around 2,000 meters above sea level, during nighttime and in difficult mountainous terrain. After receiving first aid, the Dutch citizen was swiftly airlifted to the Shaki Central District Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery.
