Azerbaijan, OpenAI expand AI cooperation in education PHOTO

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education and OpenAI have signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding the use of artificial intelligence in the country’s education system.

The memorandum was signed in New York by Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev and OpenAI Vice President of Education Leah Belsky, the ministry’s press service told Caliber.Az.

Under the agreement, the parties will work on developing AI-powered educational tools, training teachers and education professionals, and establishing standards for the safe and responsible use of AI in schools.

A key area of the cooperation will be the development of a learning management system for mathematics, science and reading using OpenAI technologies. The system is expected to provide AI-based support for teachers in lesson planning, preparing educational materials and assessing students’ knowledge.

The initiative also aims to reduce the time teachers spend on preparation and administrative duties, allowing them to focus more on direct interaction with students.

The memorandum provides for AI training programmes for teachers, students and education-sector employees. The parties also plan to strengthen local expertise through a “Training of Trainers” programme designed to expand the pool of AI instructors.

In addition, Azerbaijan and OpenAI will cooperate on methodological approaches, recommendations and frameworks governing the safe, ethical and responsible use of AI in education.

The ministry said the memorandum marks the second such agreement signed with OpenAI. During the previous stage of cooperation, the sides developed an adaptive learning platform.
