Azerbaijan's embassy in Latvia marks Remembrance Day anniversary PHOTO

The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Latvia held an event on September 25 to commemorate the sixth anniversary of September 27 – Remembrance Day.

According to a statement posted on Facebook by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Latvia, the commemoration began with the national anthem and a minute of silence in honour of the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 44-day Patriotic War, Caliber.Az reports.

In her address, Ambassador Narmina Mustafayeva highlighted the significance of Remembrance Day and said the memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan would live forever in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people.

The ambassador noted that, in accordance with a decree issued by President Ilham Aliyev, September 27 is observed annually in Azerbaijan as Remembrance Day.

Mustafayeva also stressed the importance of preserving national memory, conveying the truth about Azerbaijan to future generations, and maintaining a spirit of unity and love for the homeland.

The event was followed by a concert dedicated to the martyrs of the 44-day Patriotic War. The musical programme featured the head of the jazz department at the Liepāja Secondary School of Music, Art, and Design, renowned accordionist and Azerbaijani compatriot Rustam Baghirov, performer Leyla Aliyeva and Latvian musicians.

The programme included works by Azerbaijani folk and professional composers.

The embassy also hosted a photo exhibition dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.

Representatives of the Azerbaijani community living in Latvia, as well as Azerbaijani students studying in the country, attended the event.
