Azerbaijan lists 3,682 people still missing from Karabakh Wars PHOTO

A total of 4,010 Azerbaijani citizens were registered as missing during the First and Second Karabakh Wars, with 3,682 still listed as missing, according to a report by Azerbaijan’s State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons.

The report said of the total, 4,004 people went missing during the First Karabakh War, while six went missing during the Second Karabakh War.

Among those who went missing during the First Karabakh War, 3,222 were military personnel, and 782 were civilians. The civilians included 71 children, 288 women and 319 elderly people.

The State Commission continues systematic efforts to search for missing persons, locate and exhume remains, identify them and hand them over to their families. In August, the remains of five people were discovered and exhumed, bringing the total number of exhumed remains to 910. The remains of 21 identified individuals were handed over to their families and buried, bringing the total number of burials to 267.

A total of 32 mass graves have been discovered, while DNA analysis and forensic examinations have identified 328 people.

From January through August this year, the remains of 79 people were exhumed, 57 missing persons were identified, and the remains of 64 people were handed over to their families and buried.

Currently, 3,682 people remain listed as missing.
