Azerbaijani journalists explore Israel’s northern border with Lebanon PHOTO

02 September 2026 14:27

A group of Azerbaijani journalists visited Israel’s northern border and familiarised themselves with the situation in the areas bordering Lebanon, as well as the key challenges posed by Hezbollah’s presence in the region.

Sarit Zehavi, founder and president of the Alma Research and Education Centre, briefed the journalists on the latest developments along the border, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“The change in the political situation in Syria and Lebanon has weakened Hezbollah. In principle, Israel and the Lebanese government share a common interest in disarming the group. Therefore, we hope for a favorable outcome,” she stressed.

Following the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, the Israel-Lebanon border saw regular exchanges of fire between the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah. On October 8, 2023, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for shelling Israeli positions in the disputed Shebaa Farms area, prompting Israel to launch retaliatory strikes. Tensions have continued to flare periodically along the border since then.
