Speaker highlights Azerbaijan’s support for dozens of countries worldwide

01 September 2026 14:19

Azerbaijan is seeking to translate the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) into concrete initiatives, ranging from assisting more than 80 countries to strengthening the organisation’s institutional structure, Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (parliament) Sahiba Gafarova said.

Addressing an event in Belgrade marking NAM’s 65th anniversary, Gafarova said the movement’s fundamental principles closely correspond to the priorities of Azerbaijan’s state policy and are reflected in NAM’s program, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

She stressed that Azerbaijan remains committed to upholding independence, solidarity, and unity while working to enhance NAM’s role and influence on the international stage.

“Azerbaijan seeks to turn these principles into practical action. In times of global challenges, we promote solidarity and cooperation among NAM member states,” the speaker emphasised.

Gafarova pointed to Azerbaijan’s support for the international community during the COVID-19 pandemic as an example of these principles in practice. She said Azerbaijan extended financial and humanitarian assistance to more than 80 countries and provided technical support and educational grants.

She also drew attention to efforts to strengthen NAM’s institutional framework. According to Gafarova, the Parliamentary Network has held five conferences since 2021, paving the way for important steps, including the decision to establish its headquarters in Baku and expand ties with international and inter-parliamentary institutions.

“Today, the Network brings together parliaments of NAM member states. This demonstrates our determination to implement the Bandung principles, and to promote dialogue, justice, peace, and sustainable development through parliamentary diplomacy,” she concluded.
