Belarusian president hails Trump’s role in securing Armenia-Azerbaijan peace deal

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated US President Donald Trump on what he described as a significant achievement in resolving the long-standing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Speaking to journalists on August 22, Lukashenko revealed new details of his recent telephone conversation with Trump, Caliber.Az reports.

“This is a big plus. I said: well done for finding opportunities, bringing everyone to the negotiating table, and signing such an agreement with the Armenians and Azerbaijanis [regarding the Zangezur Corridor]. This is a great achievement. No one can oppose it. This is a peaceful agreement,” Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian leader’s remarks came after a landmark summit on August 8, 2025, hosted by President Trump, which brought together Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

During the high-level talks, the three leaders endorsed a joint declaration outlining a seven-point framework that underscores the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the renunciation of force as the foundation for lasting peace.

As part of the process, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan initialled a draft document titled the “Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations” in the presence of Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio hailed the agreement as a “historic advance towards lasting peace.”

One of the key elements of the deal is the creation of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) — more commonly referred to as the Zangezur Corridor — a transit route through Armenian territory connecting mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave.
