NYT: Trump weighs potential successors for 2028 presidential race

US President Donald Trump is showing interest in possible candidates who could succeed him after the 2028 elections, The New York Times reports, citing sources.

The American leader has discussed potential figures, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance. “Mr. Trump’s advisers say he is simply having fun polling people, and that 2028 is not at the top of his mind at all,” the publication added.

However, according to the NYT, the growing popularity of Rubio and Vance is making them key potential contenders within the current administration’s inner circle.
