Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan pledge stronger parliamentary cooperation

Speaker of Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and Chairperson of the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova have met in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, on the sidelines of the Second Asian Women’s Forum, where they reaffirmed the strong development of relations between the two nations and discussed expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation. 

The sides emphasized the strong and friendly ties between the countries across all areas of cooperation, noting that high-level political dialogue between the heads of state plays a key role in further strengthening bilateral relations, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

During the meeting, Gafarova underlined the importance of the forum in expanding women’s participation in social and political life and in promoting cooperation among women parliamentarians from different countries. She also highlighted the forum’s role in strengthening women’s participation in decision-making processes, advancing inter-parliamentary cooperation, and reinforcing regional solidarity.

Referring to inter-parliamentary relations, Gafarova stressed the successful development of cooperation with Turkmenistan, noting that friendship groups operate in the parliaments of both countries and that both legislatures also cooperate within international parliamentary organizations.

In turn, Gulmanova praised the high level of relations between the two states and their parliaments, emphasizing the importance of mutual visits and close contacts in deepening bilateral ties.

The officials also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation on international and regional platforms, the prospects for inter-parliamentary relations, and other issues of mutual interest.
