Belarus to prepare selected units for war readiness, says president
The Armed Forces of Belarus will begin mobilizing selected units in order to prepare them for potential warfare, President Aleksandr Lukashenko has announced.
The Belarusian leader said he expects efforts to address and correct shortcomings identified during an inspection of the armed forces to continue, BelTA reports.
“I very much hope that this process will not end, that the army leadership, and first of all the minister, will pay the most serious attention to the shortcomings that were revealed by this inspection,” he said.
Lukashenko reiterated his position that, although Belarus remains committed to peace, its armed forces must be prepared for possible military operations if required.
“Later on, as I’ve promised, we will selectively mobilize army units in order to prepare them for war. God willing, it will be possible to avoid it,” Lukashenko added.
