Parliament speaker: Azerbaijani women play vital role in national life

Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, said that ensuring women’s rights and promoting gender equality remain among the key priorities of state policy, speaking at the 2nd Asian Women’s Forum held in Uzbekistan.

Addressing the forum, Gafarova stressed that broader participation of women in political, economic, and public life contributes to the formation of stronger institutions and societies, as well as more inclusive development. She underscored that empowering women is not only a social objective but also a critical factor in sustainable national progress.

Gafarova also highlighted the growing significance of Asia in the modern global system. She noted that the region, with its multi-billion population, substantial economic potential, and rich cultural diversity, is increasingly becoming one of the main driving forces of global development and international progress.

In her remarks, the speaker emphasised the importance of regional and international cooperation, as well as the exchange of experience, in achieving shared goals related to development and inclusion.

Providing an overview of Azerbaijan’s experience, Gafarova pointed to the active role played by Azerbaijani women across all areas of national life. She said that Azerbaijan firmly supports international cooperation aimed at expanding women’s participation in every sphere of public life.

According to Gafarova, women in Azerbaijan are actively engaged in political, economic, scientific, and cultural activities. They hold responsible positions in state institutions, diplomacy, education, and public administration, and are also making a significant contribution to the post-conflict reconstruction of the liberated territories of Karabakh.
