UN praises Azerbaijan’s commitment to multilateral cooperation
The United Nations has praised Azerbaijan’s continued commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation, according to a message from Secretary-General António Guterres delivered at the First General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform.
The message was read by the UN Resident Coordinator ad interim in Azerbaijan, Igor Garafulic, according to local media.
Guterres stressed that Azerbaijan’s approach to global engagement, including its promotion of inclusive cooperation, is highly valued by the United Nations.
He described the Global South NGO Platform as an important mechanism for strengthening solidarity, dialogue, and partnerships among countries of the Global South.
The message further noted that the assembly’s focus on inclusive urban development, climate resilience, and sustainable governance reflects the real challenges faced by cities in the Global South as they work toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Guterres also stressed the importance of advancing joint initiatives, reinforcing institutional connections, and expanding the participation of civil society within UN frameworks, including COP and the World Urban Forum (WUF).
“The UN in Azerbaijan stands ready to support efforts aimed at strengthening cooperation and expanding the capacity of civil society,” the message said.
