Baku secures leadership of Global South NGO Platform for five-year term

Azerbaijan will lead the Secretariat of the Global South NGO Platform (GSNP) for a five-year term, it was announced during the organisation’s first General Assembly meeting.

According to local media, the decision was revealed at the inaugural session of the Platform’s General Assembly.

Following a vote, Azerbaijani representative Fuad Kerimli was elected Secretary General of the Platform.

In addition, four Deputy Secretaries General were elected to coordinate the Platform’s activities across key regions, including Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific.

The first General Assembly has brought together NGO delegates from more than 110 countries across these regions, which together account for around 80% of the world’s population.
