23 May 2025 14:22

Another group of Azerbaijani former internally displaced persons, who returned to their native village of Kangarli, Aghdam District, on May 23, have already been provided with keys to their brand-new apartments.

A total of 49 families—comprising 232 individuals—have been resettled in the revitalised village as part of the ongoing state program for the return of IDPs to liberated territories, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Delegates from the Special Representative Office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Aghdam, Fizuli, and Khojavend districts, as well as the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, took part in the ceremony.

As part of President Ilham Aliyev’s ongoing resettlement initiative, a further group of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) has returned to Kangarli village in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam District.

The families had previously been housed temporarily across various regions of the country, including in dormitories, sanatoriums, and administrative buildings, Caliber.Az reports.

In this latest phase of the resettlement programme, 49 families—comprising a total of 232 individuals—have made the journey back to their ancestral village.

With this new group, the total number of Kangarli residents who have returned home now stands at 487 people from 109 families.

Among those returning is 14-year-old Davud Nabiyev, a young ashugh—a traditional folk poet and singer—whose enthusiasm for resettling in Kangarli reflects the hopes of many. Speaking to local media, Nabiyev expressed his joy and shared his plans for the future.

“I can hardly contain my joy at returning to my native village,” he said.

“I plan to apply to the Aghdam Mugham Centre. I’m thrilled to be going back to Karabakh. My mother often spoke to me about her childhood memories of Aghdam, and I’ve always held a beautiful image of our hometown in my heart.”
