Iran's new president chooses first foreign visit
Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran’s newly elected president, will make Iraq his first destination abroad following his inauguration.
In an interview with Iranian media, Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadeq confirmed that Pezeshkian will visit Baghdad in mid-September, following an official invitation from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad al-Sudani, Caliber.Az reports.
The trip is expected to see the signing of agreements that were negotiated during the tenure of former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
Al-Sadeq expressed optimism that Pezeshkian's visit will enhance and strengthen the bilateral relationship between Iran and Iraq. He noted that some memorandums of understanding (MoUs) will need to be reviewed by the new Iranian administration before being finalized.
The ambassador also highlighted his satisfaction with the current state of relations between the two neighbouring countries and hoped that the upcoming visit would foster further political, economic, and cultural collaboration, deepening mutual ties.
