Kazakh citizen detained in US over terrorism-related suspicion PHOTO
A Kazakh citizen has been detained in the United States and is expected to be deported after being identified by US immigration authorities as a known or suspected terrorist, according to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The agency said Yelaman Baltagerey was detained on June 5 during a targeted operation carried out with the assistance of federal partners, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.

An immigration court had ordered his removal from the United States in the summer of last year, but he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing.
In its statement, the ICE described Baltagerey as a “known or suspected terrorist” who is subject to a final order of removal.
He will remain in custody pending the completion of deportation proceedings, the agency said.
However, ICE did not disclose the grounds on which Baltagerey was classified as a known or suspected terrorist.
The agency provided no additional details regarding the designation, limiting its public statement to information about his detention, pending deportation, and a photograph of the detainee.
No further comments have been issued by ICE concerning the allegations or the evidence behind the classification.
