Path to reconciliation: Türkiye’s four conditions for normalising ties with Syria
Turkish politicians have put forward four conditions for the normalisation of relations between Damascus and Ankara and the withdrawal of Turkish troops from the territory of Syria.
The first condition for normalisation of relations between the states is to get rid of terrorists in Syria in order to preserve sovereignty, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Secondly, Damascus should start implementing the provisions of the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254, which envisages the settlement of the political crisis in Syria and a ceasefire.
The third condition is for the Syrian authorities to provide conditions for the return of refugees who have fled the country, and the fourth is regular deliveries of humanitarian supplies to the territory controlled by opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The journalists stressed that without meeting all the conditions, the dialogue on the normalization of relations will not move forward.
The civil war started in Syria in 2011. Türkiye then came out on the side of Assad's opponents. In the summer of 2024, a course for the normalisation of Syrian-Turkish relations was launched.
