Moscow slams French democracy after prosecutor seeks jail time for Le Pen
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has commented on the ongoing events in France, stating that "democracy in France has spiralled out of control."
This remark came in response to the widespread protests and unrest in the country, driven by public dissatisfaction with various political and social issues, Caliber.Az reports.
According to Zakharova’s statement mentioned in her Telegram channel, the Paris Prosecutor's Office has demanded Marine Le Pen be sentenced to five years in prison, along with a ban on her electoral rights for the same term. It's all coming together: Durov, Le Pen – democracy in France is running riot.
Notably, on November 13, the prosecutor's office in France demanded that Marine Le Pen, the leader of the parliamentary faction of the right-wing National Rally party, be sentenced to five years in prison: three on probation and two with an electronic bracelet.
The prosecutor's office opened a case against Le Pen immediately after the end of France's controversial elections to the national parliament. By late September, a trial against Le Pen and her party began in Paris over alleged laundering of 6.8 million euros.
