Armenian, French legislative leaders back Baku-Yerevan peace treaty
As part of Armenia's pro-Western foreign policy course, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan travelled to Paris, where he met with the President of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher.
According to the Vestnik Kavkaza news outlet, the two parliamentary leaders discussed further cooperation between Armenia and France, as well as the prospects for Armenia’s integration into the European Union.
As reported by the Armenian Parliament’s press service today, Speaker Alen Simonyan was received in Paris by his counterpart, President of the French Senate Gérard Larcher.
The talks focused on expanding cooperation between Paris and Yerevan. Larcher told Simonyan that France intends to provide continuous support to Armenia in all its endeavours.
Simonyan expressed his gratitude to the French authorities for their interest in Armenia, their assistance in developing its economy, and in rearming the Armenian army, which was defeated by Azerbaijani forces at the end of the Karabakh war.
He described France as a brotherly country for Armenia.
During the talks, the two parliamentarians discussed Armenia’s EU integration prospects and the preliminary results of domestic reforms aimed at strengthening democracy in the Republic of Armenia.
Alen Simonyan and Gérard Larcher also agreed that a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan should be signed and ratified.
