Kazakhstan, Gazprom move toward long-term gas contract

16 September 2026 14:40

Kazakhstan and Gazprom have signed an addendum to their gas supply contract and plan to begin negotiations on a long-term agreement by the end of the year, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Energy Minister Kaiyrkhan Tutkyshbayev said.

“We have made very good progress in negotiations with Gazprom. I flew in from St. Petersburg the day before yesterday. We signed an addendum to the contract. Therefore, by the end of the year, I think we will already be discussing a long-term contract. We are now waiting for our infrastructure projects,” Tutkyshbayev told journalists on the sidelines of the TNF-2026 international industrial and energy forum.

He said the two sides had made significant progress in their negotiations and that Kazakhstan was awaiting the completion of infrastructure projects before moving toward a longer-term arrangement.

Tutkyshbayev also stressed that Russia remains a strategic partner for Kazakhstan in the energy sector.

“We have no problems with gas-related issues,” the deputy minister said.
