Sweden expels Iranian diplomat over security threats

Sweden has expelled an employee of the Iranian Embassy and summoned Iran’s ambassador, accusing Tehran of threatening Jewish and Israeli interests in the country.

Swedish Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer confirmed the move, saying it was linked to what he described as a pattern of hostile activity by Iran on Swedish soil.

“We know that Iran, over a long period of time, has conducted activities that threaten security in and against Sweden, targeting both individuals who oppose the Iranian regime and various Jewish and Israeli interests in our country,” Strömmer said.

According to the minister, Iran has carried out some of these activities by relying on criminal networks.

“This has, among other things, been done by making use of criminal networks,” he added.
