Georgia to appeal US court ruling in ENKA case

16 September 2026 16:05

The Georgian authorities intend to appeal a Washington court ruling issued as part of an arbitration dispute with Turkish company ENKA, Deputy Justice Minister Beka Dzamashvili said, rejecting as false reports that a US court had ordered Georgia to pay ENKA more than $400 million in compensation.

According to Dzamashvili, the obligation to make the payment arose in 2024 based on a decision by a Paris-based arbitration tribunal, the annulment of which Georgia is seeking through French courts. Meanwhile, he said, the Washington court ruling concerns only the continuation of proceedings to recognise the arbitration award in the United States.

“This decision is subject to further appeal in the Washington jurisdiction, and the Georgian government will, of course, use this legal opportunity and defend the state interests to the very end in all jurisdictions,” Dzamashvili noted.
