Türkiye, Azerbaijan are "islands of stability", FM Fidan says

16 September 2026 13:33

Türkiye and Azerbaijan are “two islands of stability” in a region facing numerous challenges, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said.

Fidan made the remarks in a post on X following his visit to Azerbaijan on September 15, Caliber.Az reports.

Fidan described Azerbaijan as a brotherly and allied country with which Türkiye has consistently cooperated and demonstrated solidarity in addressing global challenges and regional developments.

He noted that it was a coincidence that he was in Azerbaijan on the 108th anniversary of the liberation of Baku, and thanked Azerbaijani officials, particularly his counterpart and “brother,” Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, for their hospitality.

During the visit, Fidan was received by President Ilham Aliyev and held extensive talks with FM Bayramov. The two foreign ministers also held a joint press briefing following their meeting.

“We assessed the crises in our region and exchanged views on ensuring lasting peace, stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus, as well as the common future of the Turkic world,” Fidan said.

He added that the sides discussed measures to further expand economic and trade ties, joint projects in the energy and transport sectors, and cooperation in the field of security.

Fidan stressed that Türkiye would continue to deepen cooperation with Azerbaijan and work jointly toward shared goals.
