Turkish citizen wanted by Interpol detained in Batumi VIDEO
A Turkish citizen wanted internationally through Interpol has been detained in Batumi, Georgia, the country’s Interior Ministry said.
Officers of the Georgian Interior Ministry’s Patrol Police Department detained the man after establishing his whereabouts in the Black Sea city, the ministry said in a Facebook post.
According to Georgian law enforcement authorities, the Turkish national was wanted by Türkiye in connection with a number of serious crimes.
The ministry did not disclose the man’s identity or provide further details about the alleged offences.
Legal procedures required for his subsequent extradition to Türkiye are currently underway, the ministry said.
Georgia has previously detained foreign nationals in Batumi on Interpol Red Notices and initiated extradition procedures at the request of foreign law-enforcement authorities.
